The Original girouard.org

Mike Girouard built girouard.org beginning in the 1990s. He assembled the first online Girouard genealogy database, wrote a comprehensive account of Acadian history organized into dozens of sections, collected and scanned original church documents bearing the family name, organized the 1999 Girouard Family Reunion in Morgan City, Louisiana, and maintained the site for years as the authoritative online home for this family.

That was significant work. The genealogical database he built is the foundation for the family tree on this site. His history writing organized and presented the Acadian story for a web audience before most genealogy resources existed online. The coat of arms image that appears throughout these pages came from his site. The original church document scans he assembled remain available only at girouard.org/documents.

All rights to Mike’s original content remain with him. His site is the authoritative source for his work.

This Site

The Girouard Family Archive is a separate project, built to add what the original site lacked: a searchable family tree, linkage between genealogical records and vital records, unified search across both databases, and updated historical content drawing on the scholarship and digital archives that have come online since the 1990s.

It was started in 2026 by a descendant of the Girouard line. The genealogy data traces over 14,000 individuals, including the Vermont branch of the family that was absent from the original site. The vital records database holds 18,000+ births, marriages, deaths, and burials from FamilySearch parish records.

This site is not affiliated with Mike Girouard or girouard.org. It exists alongside his site, not in place of it. Where his content is referenced, it is attributed and linked. Where our content builds on his research, that is noted.

The coat of arms shown on this site is the historical Girouard family armorial, a heraldic design associated with the family. The image file came from Mike Girouard’s original site. It is reproduced here as a historical reference, with appreciation to him for making it available.
